IHSAA Football Results: Week 1 recap, highlights and stats from across the Indy region
Here are the nominees for week 1:
Gabe Arboles, Westfield: The Ball State veteran recorded seven catches for 138 yards and a touchdown as Class 6A's No. 4 Westfield defeated No. 3 Center Grove 34-28.
Tanner Aspeslet, Lawrence North: The veteran quarterback completed 13 of 19 passes for 211 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated Lawrence Central 33-26.
Jalen Bonds, Cathedral: The senior ran 25 times for 162 yards and a touchdown as No. 10 Cathedral defeated Class 6A top-ranked Ben Davis 24-6.
Jayden Buchanan, Roncalli: The senior quarterback completed 14 of 21 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns in Roncalli's 37-13 win over Southport.
Ashton Carter, Avon: The junior running back had 184 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in Avon's 41-28 loss to Lafayette Jeff. Carter also threw a 53-yard pass.
Jacob Davis, New Palestine: Davis scored a touchdown on his first rushing attempt as a Dragon and set the school record for the longest play in school history with a 99-yard touchdown pass to Austin McMahan. Davis finished the game with 209 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Caleb Foor, North Central: The senior quarterback completed 31 of 46 passes for 428 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions in North Central's 49-35 loss to Fishers.
Maverick Geske, Jesuit from Brebeuf: The senior quarterback completed 21 of 40 passes for 390 yards and scored two touchdowns in Brebeuf's 58-35 loss to Class 4A No. 2 Bishop Chatard. Geske also ran for a touchdown.
JonAnthony Hall, Fishers: The Stanford player began his season with nine catches for 151 yards and four touchdowns. Hall also had a 57-yard kickoff return in Fishers' 49-35 win. Hall played only half the game.
Jack Harrington, Bishop Chatard: Harrington completed 25 of 30 passes for 284 yards and scored four touchdowns in Class 4A No. 2 Bishop Chatard's 58-35 win over No. 4 Brebeuf Jesuit. Harrington also ran for a touchdown.
Kasmir Hicks, Decatur Central: The junior was a bright spot for the Hawks in a 41-15 loss to Columbus North, returning a kickoff for a touchdown and catching a TD pass. Hicks had five catches for 68 yards and three kickoff returns for 138 yards.
Jaylan Johnson, Seymour: Johnson had five catches for 69 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown, and had two interceptions on defense and an onside kick recovery in Seymour's 23-20 win over Greenwood.
Alex Leugers, Franklin: The senior running back scored touchdowns of 80, 50 and 35 yards and also scored a 90-yard kickoff touchdown in Franklin's 47-6 win over New Albany.
Gabe McWilliams, Center Grove: The senior quarterback completed 23 of 33 passes for 328 yards and scored two touchdowns in third-ranked Center Grove's 34-28 loss to No. 4 Westfield.
Jayden Mullins, Elwood: Mullins made the most of his limited time on the field, defeating Southern Wells 47-6. Mullins completed 1 of 1 passes for 75 yards and ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Mullins also returned a 48-yard interception for a touchdown.
Elijah Pimental, Christian Heir: Pimental rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns on 10 rushing attempts in Heritage Christian's 55-12 victory over Covenant Christian.
Brendan Shockley, Lebanon: The veteran running back ran 26 times for 190 yards and two touchdowns in Lebanon's 48-40 win over Pendleton Heights.
Luke Starnes, Plainfield: Starnes' 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter provided the game-winning score in Plainfield's 31-27 victory over Terre Haute South. Starnes finished the game with 145 rushing yards and two TDs on 21 carries.
Gage Sturgill, Fishers: The junior quarterback completed 14 of 21 passes for 224 yards and scored six touchdowns in Fisher's 49-35 victory over North Central. The six touchdown passes – all in the first half – set a school record.
Eli Thompson, North Central: The veteran receiver caught ten passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns in North Central's 49-35 loss to Fishers.
Slate Valentine, Whiteland: The senior running back ran 31 times for 256 yards in Whiteland's 27-13 win over Jeffersonville.
AZ Wallace, Hamilton Southeastern: The senior running back ran for 112 yards and four touchdowns (all in the first half) on 25 attempts in Class 6A sixth-ranked HSE's 45-21 victory over Carroll (Fort Wayne).
Kellen Watson, Penn: The senior quarterback accounted for 315 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with 126 passing yards and three TDs, as Penn defeated Class 5A third-ranked Valparaiso 49-42.
