A 16-year-old high school quarterback tragically passed away this weekend after sustaining a head injury during a football game.
According to WFSA's report, Caden Tellier was on the Morgan Academy football team. The accident occurred during the team's first game against Southern Academy on Friday, August 23. The 16-year-old high school student reportedly suffered “traumatic brain injury,” according to a GoFundMe fundraiser.
The link, set up by Kristen Jones, described the teenager as “best known for his kindness, generosity and love. True to his nature, he is once again giving of himself to save the lives of others by donating his organs. His legacy will live on and we thank God we had the opportunity to love him and be loved by him.”
A Facebook post from the Alabama Independent School Association initially said Caden was “hospitalized in critical condition with a brain injury.” Sadly, school officials later announced that he did not survive. Numerous reports on the case state that Tellier was tackled to the ground during the opening game. He was immediately taken to Birmingham Hospital.
The boy's mother, Arsella, wrote in a Facebook post, “Our boy has come to know Jesus face to face.” She expressed gratitude for all the prayers she received, adding, “Everyone who knows Caden has experienced kindness, generosity and love… and true to his nature, he gives of himself once again.”
