Hagerstown police are investigating at least the second daylight shooting to occur downtown in less than six weeks.

This incident was not fatal, according to a Facebook post from Hagerstown Police. The 41-year-old victim appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the leg, but they were not life-threatening, the post said.

After a foot chase, police arrested a 16-year-old male suspect from the city.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday morning, police had not released the identity of the suspected shooter or the victim. It was not known at that time whether charges had been filed against the suspect.

The post said police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 100 block of East Washington Street shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

That's the block between Locust and Mulberry Streets, so the shooting would have taken place at least one block from Public Square, a mostly residential block that also includes at least one church, a preschool, and a grocery store.

Hagerstown police said the shooting was a “targeted incident.”

The suspect was taken into custody minutes after the shooting in the 300 block of Liberty Street.

This block of Liberty Street is off of North Cannon Avenue. It is about four to five blocks from the crime scene.

Hagerstown police first posted about the shooting on Facebook around 4 p.m. on Wednesday and subsequently posted around 5:25 p.m. that the suspect was in custody.

Tiheen Justice Nathan Matthews, 20, who was sitting with Edwards in a car parked in the 200 block of East Washington Street, was also shot.

Brandon Lamont Hinton Jr., 24, was charged with Edwards' murder the next day. Hagerstown police also said a murder warrant was issued for a second suspect in the shooting.

According to an online query from Maryland's online court records system, it did not appear as of Thursday morning that the second suspect had been arrested.
