A 16-year-old middle school student gave birth to a dead baby in the bathroom of a government girls' hostel in Kothapatnam in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The student, a first-year undergraduate at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), had been living in the hostel for the past two months.
According to school authorities, the student complained of stomach pain and was taken to the toilet where she gave birth to a dead baby. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the student did not return to her classroom after a long time and her classmates informed the teachers.
The student, a resident of Cheemakurthi Mandal, had joined the KGBV on June 19 and had been attending classes regularly. She had gone home for a week and then returned to the hostel where she had been living with other students.
The school administration claimed that they were unaware of the student's pregnancy and only found out what had happened when she did not return to her classroom. The student was taken to RIMS Hospital in Ongole for medical treatment.
Kothapatanam Circle Inspector Jagadish said that a sixteen-year-old girl gave birth in a college toilet of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya. The college staff noticed that she had not left the toilet for a long time. A lecturer went in and found a dead boy lying next to her. They informed the police who immediately rushed to the spot and took the girl to RIMS Hospital in Ongole.
A case has been registered and a person from Chimakurthi is suspected to be involved in the incident.
