Irish Fest cancels popular breakfast after founding chef shot dead

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – The Irish community is mourning the death of a beloved Brookside chef.

A gunman shot and killed Shaun Brady outside his restaurant, Brady and Fox, near 63rd and Rockhill Road on Wednesday night.

It happened as the close-knit community was preparing for the annual Irish Fest.

Organizers released a statement about Brady's murder on Thursday morning.

On behalf of the Kansas City Irish Fest community, we are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our dear friend and colleague Shaun Brady. Not only was Shaun an important part of the Kansas City Irish Fest family, but his restaurant, Brady and Fox, was a gathering place for many members of the Irish community.

While Irish Fest continues at Crown Center over Labor Day weekend, organizers announced an important change. The traditional Sunday Irish breakfast will not take place.

Irish Fest said it will release more information about Brady's planned honors in the near future.
