BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Following a report by the City of Baltimore's Inspector General into working conditions in the city's Department of Public Works, the city is now paying a Washington, D.C. law firm to review safety practices within the department.
On a Thursday edition of Fox45 Morning News, Megan Gilliland spoke with David Williams of the Taxpayers Alliance about the need for the report. Williams says it is necessary, but this is not the first time this has happened in Baltimore.
“Remember the Druid Sexual Health Clinic a few years ago. A rat was found there and not removed for months,” Williams said. “This is a pattern and that's why this report is necessary.”
However, Williams acknowledged that despite the necessity of this measure, he had concerns, particularly about the cost to taxpayers.
“You mention a law firm in Washington, and when you say law firm in Washington, that means expensive,” Williams said. “Lawyers in this city are very expensive, and we're talking tens of thousands of dollars for this report, and we may not see the contents.” [Mayor Brandon Scott] said so. That the results may not be made public because there may be a lawsuit involved.”
Williams says Mayor Scott's claim is nothing more than an excuse.
“We need to see what happened, why it happened and where it happened,” Williams said. “That's why this report is important, but we also need to know what the results are.” [Baltimore City] cannot sweep the findings under the carpet.”
