Syracuse, NY – Seven teenagers and a 24-year-old were arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing six motorcycles from Preferred Power Sports in Cicero on Tuesday, police said.
The detainees are between the ages of 14 and 24, police said. They were arrested as part of a joint investigation by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office and the Cicero Police Department.
Police responded to a burglary alarm at the motorsports shop at 8932 Brewerton Road around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, police said. The group had entered the business in a stolen vehicle, causing the front windows and front wall to collapse, allowing them to get inside, according to court documents from Cicero police.
Six motorcycles were stolen from the store, police said. They included a 2024 Kayo motocross bike, a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle, a 2024 Kawasaki street bike, a 2019 Yamaha street bike, a Kawasaki KX450x and a Honda CRF300. In total, the bikes were worth $35,065, police said.
The group crossed Brewerton Road and hid the bikes in the woods when they were attacked by a concerned citizen, police said. The group fled before police arrived.
The suspects then traveled to the town of Onondaga and were caught during a burglary of a residence, according to Tom Newton, a spokesman for the sheriff's office. The group stole power tools, a Polaris Ranger UTV and other belongings from a work vehicle, he said.
The group was subsequently arrested and charged by sheriff's deputies and Cicero police.
The only adult in the group, Brandon Correa, 24, of Syracuse, was charged by Cicero police with burglary and grand theft. The sheriff's office charged him with endangering the welfare of a child and grand theft. He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center awaiting arraignment.
The seven youths were charged with burglary and grand theft, police said. Two were released with summonses to appear in family court and the remaining five youths were taken to juvenile court for arraignment.
