COLUMBIA, MD — The public's help is needed to find the 17-year-old suspect wanted in the fatal shooting at the Mall in Columbia on July 27. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered for information leading to the teen's arrest. He is wanted on first-degree murder and related charges.
Howard County police believe William Marshall III of Columbia, also known as Junior, targeted the victim, 17-year-old Angelo Little, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting occurred at 6:10 p.m. on July 27 in the mall's food court. Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other but have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, police said.
On Aug. 5, police released surveillance video showing Marshall's movements through the mall before and after the shooting. Investigators identified Marshall as the suspect in that footage and obtained a warrant for his arrest. In the video, Marshall can be seen sitting at a table in the food court with his head down until Little walks toward the bathroom hallway. Marshall gets up from the table and follows Little. He waits until Little leaves the bathroom, then fires a fatal shot from behind and runs out a back door, the police department said.
Little was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found a gun on him and investigators determined that Little was also the victim of an April 2023 shooting in which he was injured. No one has been arrested in that case and it is unknown if the two incidents are related, the police department reported.
According to the Howard County Public School System, Marshall is a student at Oakland Mills High School but has not attended school this year. Investigators believe he may have left the area.
