GAYLORD – An Elmira Township man faces murder charges in connection with the shooting death of his father.
Kyle Karsten, 25, appeared before Otsego County District Judge Michael Cooper on Wednesday, August 28, and was charged with murder. The murder charge may later be amended to first- or second-degree murder, depending on the ongoing investigation.
Michigan State Police troopers responded to a report of a shooting on Camp Ten Road in Elmira Township on Tuesday, August 27. Upon arrival, officers found a 57-year-old man who had been shot and later pronounced dead. The victim was Lee Karsten, the father of the accused.
Kyle Karsten pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Cooper set bail at $350,000 cash or surety. The bail conditions require Kyle Karsten to have no contact with his mother and not go to her residence.
