SPD officers arrest shooting suspects

Springfield, Massachusetts — On Saturday, August 24, at approximately 4:35 a.m., Springfield police arrested two shooting suspects and seized an illegal firearm.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., police were called to the 0-100 block of Oswego Street for a report of shots fired. A victim's kitchen window was shot at.

Officers subsequently received information and were able to locate two suspects, 19-year-old Abdiel Urena and a 17-year-old male, in the 400 block of Main Street.

Officers then seized a loaded, high-capacity firearm from Urena's jacket pocket. Urena and the 17-year-old male were arrested.

Abdiel Urena, 19, of Springfield, is accused of:

  • Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building
  • Carrying a firearm without a permit
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a permit
  • Possession of a high capacity magazine/feeder
  • Attack with a dangerous weapon
  • Defacement of property
  • Possession of a Class C drug

A 17-year-old suspect was also arrested. Due to his age, his name, booking photo and specific charges will not be published.
