ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has honoured Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem with a substantial cash reward of Rs 100 million for his services to Pakistan, ARY News reported on Thursday.
The announcement was made at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace where Nadeem was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan's second highest civilian award.
Arshad Nadeem, the javelin thrower who won gold at the Paris Olympics, met with President Zardari, who praised his efforts and success.
The President stressed that Nadeem’s achievement was an inspiration for young athletes across the country.
In addition to the financial reward, President Zardari proposed scholarships for the children of athletes to support future generations in sports.
He also mentioned plans to seek donations from the Sindh government to further recognize Nadeem's achievements.
The President expressed hope that Nadeem would bring glory to Pakistan in future competitions as well.
Earlier, Arshad Nadeem was awarded the Islamic Republic of Pakistan's second highest civilian award, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday for his groundbreaking performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The President conferred the civilian award on Arshad Nadeem during a special ceremony in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sports.
Earlier, President Zardari had on August 10 approved a civilian award for the javelin champion under Article 259 (2) of the Constitution, the Presidential Press Office said in a press release.
