Traunstein – He loves basketball and is fully committed to the club: József Kégli will play in the Chiemgau Baskets men's I squad in the upcoming season and will also take part as deputy sports director, men's II coach and referee. This makes Kégli the next representative of the “young guard” of TV Traunstein basketball players alongside Pablo Schmidt, Noel Friedl, Niko Kolovos, Heye Gädt and Markos Bamis.
Kégli learned to play basketball in youth teams in Hungary and has been active with the Chiemgau Baskets for two years. The 20-year-old has previously played in the second men's team and has now moved up to the regional league squad, where he has been training for a long time. The 1.89-meter-tall man is set to play the position of shooting guard and is looking forward to the coming season: “I was well received by the team, the team is really great,” says the automotive mechatronics engineer. “Adrian Mitchell and Stefan Gruber in particular always give me valuable tips before and after training, which helps me a lot.” In general, he likes the fact that the team is very motivated and has set itself high goals that everyone in the department works towards together: “The department management is also actively behind these goals.”
Kégli recently also obtained his E-license as a referee, has been supporting sports director Raphael Miksch as deputy sports director for a few weeks and will be looking after the reserve team in the district league from this season. “I love basketball and I like being in the hall, so I help where I can,” he said, explaining this extraordinary commitment.
The men's II team is the first team that Kégli has actively coached. He therefore wants to gain experience first, but he also has some plans: “I will do my best and support the boys with my knowledge and what I have learned from head coach Aaron Mitchell. My goal is to reach a top position in the table with the team.” Aaron Mitchell has supported Kégli a lot over the last two years and by calling him up to the men's I squad, he is now enabling him to take the next step: “József is a hard-working young man who I hope can help the club. He is one of our future projects and I hope that we can develop him slowly but surely.”
Department head and sports director Franz Buchenrieder also supports Kégli's nomination: “József has shown great commitment to the club both on and off the pitch over the last two years.” By appointing him to the regional league squad, Aaron is paying tribute to this hard work.” Buchenrieder also emphasizes Kégli's high level of reliability, which is why he was able to take on the role of deputy sports director. “He supports our sports director Raphael Miksch in the constantly growing sports organization of the Chiemgau Baskets. He also recently obtained his referee's license and will soon be licensed as a trainer. We are therefore very pleased to have gained an extremely committed basketball player and fellow campaigner in József for our project.”
Kégli and the men's first team's schedule for the next few weeks has already been set: two internal training games will be followed by participation in a strong tournament of the 1st regional league team Ansbach Piranhas on September 21st. One week later, on September 28th, the Alpen Cup will take place in the Traunstein AKG sports arena, before the new Regio 2 season begins on October 5th with the derby at SB DJK Rosenheim. The Baskets will then host MTV 1879 Munich for their first home game on October 12th.
