Boppard (dpa/lrs) – The alleged firearms with which two men are said to have entered a restaurant in Boppard (Rhein-Hunsrück district) have turned out to be toys. According to the police, a woman watched from a supermarket on Friday as the apparently armed men got out of a car and went into a pizzeria. Alarmed police officers arrested the owner of the car, who made it clear that the weapons were not real.
According to the statement, the emergency services have confiscated the toy weapons. Investigators are now checking whether this could be a violation of the weapons law. From a distance, the toy weapons would hardly have been any different from real weapons, they said.
After receiving the tip-off, the emergency services cordoned off and searched the area around the restaurant. However, there is no danger to the public.
