Child molester dies in chase in New York

A man kidnaps a child from a supermarket and abuses the girl. The police launch a massive manhunt. A wild chase ensues.

In New York, an 18-hour manhunt for a child molester ended with a serious traffic accident. According to the US police, the suspected perpetrator was killed.

According to officials, Wayne N. kidnapped a nine-year-old girl from a supermarket on Thursday. The 64-year-old probably struck and attacked the nine-year-old when the child's grandmother was briefly in the bathroom. “He grabbed her hair and dragged her out of the store,” said New York's Deputy Police Commissioner Jason Savino at a press conference on Friday. “Then he pushed her into his car, drove away and abused her at a nearby location.”

Only when a witness intervened did the perpetrator stop. Wayne N. drove back to the supermarket, sexually assaulted the child again and then left her standing on the sidewalk.

In order to catch the attacker, investigators published a photo of him and asked the public for help. The police also formed a task force, said Deputy Police Chief Savino. All 6,000 officers of the New York Detective Bureau were committed to the mission of arresting the suspect: “That's why we became cops.”

One day after the attack, police discovered the man's car. They tried to stop him, but the 64-year-old accelerated.

During the chase, the perpetrator then drove through a stop sign. At the intersection, he crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the accident, as was the wanted star.
