Berlin – Because a man is said to have threatened another man with a weapon, a special forces operation is underway in the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf.
Around twenty police officers are on site, a police spokeswoman told the German Press Agency.
The allegedly armed man is said to have retreated with the weapon to an apartment on Dreilindenstrasse in Wannsee. The spokeswoman did not initially provide any further information.
A dpa reporter heard several bangs coming from the apartment building that sounded like gunshots.

When asked, the police did not want to confirm or comment on this. The operation is still ongoing, a spokesman said in the afternoon.
Several ambulances and a rescue helicopter were on site.
The house is located in the Nikolassee district near the Wannsee. The neighborhood consists mainly of villas and single-family homes.
The house where the man retreated contains social housing. There is a primary school next door. A resident told a dpa reporter that there are supposed to be around 100 one-room apartments in it.
