Eyelash extensions are one of the most popular treatments that customers have done in beauty salons. However, to ensure that you can enjoy the results for a long time, the extensions need to be cared for in a special way. Beauty expert Pia Sizhan has a few tips for taking the best care of your artificial eyelashes.
In the following article you will learn what you should avoid immediately after a new modeling, how to best care for the face with eyelash extensions and what you should pay attention to after a UV lamp treatment.
People's eyes have always been given special importance. Among other things, they are considered to be a mirror of the soul. It is no wonder that women in particular strive to make their eyes stand out. One treatment that aims to do this is eyelash extension. Individual or multiple artificial eyelashes are glued to the natural eyelashes, depending on whether only an extension or also a thickening is desired. Depending on the care, the result lasts an average of three to four weeks – sometimes it can be five weeks. However, many customers are not aware of how they can help to ensure that their extensions last as long as possible. Unknowingly, they do things that damage the artificial eyelashes and are then disappointed with their beautician and their treatment. “Basically, you can carry on with your everyday life as normal with eyelash extensions. However, some behaviors damage the glue that holds the extensions to the natural eyelashes. This leads to premature loss of the individual eyelashes,” explains Pia Sizhan.
“But this can be easily avoided with the right care. Beauticians should therefore definitely give their customers the appropriate advice – so that the joy of eyelash extensions lasts as long as possible, but on the other hand also so that results that fall short of expectations due to care mistakes “don't fall back on the studio,” recommends the beauty expert. In her Alore Divor Beauty & Business Academy, she offers training courses that enable women to enter the beauty industry. These include the practical implementation of permanent make-up and eyelash extensions as well as entrepreneurial know-how so that the outgoing beauticians are able to run their own business. In the field of eyelash extensions, Pia Sizhan is therefore a true expert who knows exactly what to look out for when it comes to extensions.
1. Behavior after remodeling
When re-modeling, the extensions are attached to the natural eyelashes with a special glue. This glue needs about 24 hours to harden completely. Humidity and heat in particular weaken the bond during this phase and can cause the extensions to fall out prematurely. The face should therefore come into contact with water as little as possible in the first 24 hours after the eyelash extensions have been applied. Showering, sunbathing or hot steam are particularly not recommended during this time so as not to weaken the glue.
2. Facial care after rest
After the curing time, the glue is relatively stable, but contact with oil-based standards should be avoided. These can attack the bond and dissolve the glue in the long term. However, this does not result in the need for special eyelash shampoos. Instead, facial care with water and non-oil-based cleansing products is recommended. Caution should be exercised if the face is also subjected to excessive care: this causes friction and can cause the eyelashes to separate from the glue due to external manipulation.
3. Care after UV lamp treatment
An alternative is to apply the eyelash extensions using UV lamps. With this treatment, the glue hardens completely immediately using UV light. This means that the normal care routine can be continued immediately after the treatment, and there is no need to wait. This makes this method particularly interesting for customers who do not want to miss out on anything after the extensions have been attached.
More tips for caring for eyelash extensions
Regardless of the method of application, there are also some everyday behaviors that can have a negative impact on eyelash extensions: These include sleeping habits – for example, when lying on your stomach or side, your face is pressed into the pillow, which puts a lot of pressure on the eyelashes. It is therefore better to sleep on your back so as not to put any strain on the extensions. In addition, only oil-free original products should be used so as not to weaken the adhesive. This particularly includes make-up remover.
The use of mascara should also be done with caution: the mascara often causes individual eyelashes to stick together. Removing the mascara also creates friction and is therefore damaging to the extensions. If you still don't want to go without mascara, you should only use products specifically designed for eyelash extensions. Daily styling, however, is best done with a special eyelash brush.
