TIME ONLINE: LL Cool J, ten years have passed since your last album. You go back to your new record The power straight to the point: In the first song The Spirit of Cyrus rap and Snoop Dogg from the perspective of an armed person flying from the police.
LL Cool J: The story is based on a true story. Chris Dorner was an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. In 2013, he lost his temper. I got a call from a high-ranking LA cop: “Don't leave the house, the police are looking for this guy, dead or alive. And he looks exactly like you.” Years later, autumn inspired me again. Without judging, I wanted to approach the question: What makes us go crazy? That's how this song came about. Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest, who produced the entire album, built for The Spirit of Cyrus a particularly spooky instrumental. And we both knew: Snoop Dogg would be perfect for the chorus.
