“I just couldn't do it,” says Alyson Hannigan about the fact that she still hasn't seen the spin-off to her hit series “How I Met Your Mother.” The first footage from the set had made her too sad.
“How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan (50) has explained why she never saw the spin-off “How I Met Your Father.” The actress who played Lily Aldrin was too nostalgic.
“I think I’m not ready yet”
In an interview with “People,” Hannigan said that her colleague Cobie Smulders (42) was filming an episode for “How I Met Your Father” – “and she showed me a bunch of pictures from the set.” But looking at the photos “kind of” hurt her. “And I thought to myself, 'I don't think I'm ready to watch this yet.'” Smulders played the role of Robin Scherbatsky in the original series alongside Hannigan, Josh Radnor (50), Jason Segel (44) and Neil Patrick Harris (51). The actress had a cameo appearance in the finale of the first season of “How I Met Your Father.”
Hannigan's husband Alexis Denisof (58), who played TV presenter Sandy Rivers, also appeared in the new series – and director Pamela Fryman (65) was given the role of director in many episodes of the spin-off. “I should have watched it too,” said Alyson Hannigan. “But I just couldn't. It just made me sad because I thought: 'Oh, it's the same set.'”
The spin-off had a similar format to the original series. However, the series only ran for two seasons without ever revealing who the titular father was. “How I Met Your Mother,” on the other hand, ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014. In April, Hannigan posted an Instagram post with lots of pictures from the sitcom ten years after the show ended. “I really can't believe it's been 10 years since the last episode.”
