The ASZ Laim is offering a new support service that explains digital issues to seniors and provides advice. All information about the service:
Laim – e-prescription, digital health card, online banking, rail card, making appointments with doctors or authorities: many things can now only be done online, which is causing increasing problems for older people in particular. “Many of our visitors are completely desperate,” confirms Stefanie Tischbierek, head of the ASZ Laim, which is run by the Munich AWO. She is all the happier that Martin Steuber is now offering his help as a so-called digital guide. From September, in addition to regular consultation hours in the center at Kiem-Pauli-Weg 22, home visits to senior citizens who need advice will also be possible.
Laimer, 59, has worked in the IT department of a large credit institution for the past 25 years and recently took early retirement. “So much free time during the day has to be filled,” he thought, and in his search for meaningful and attractive areas of activity, he came across the offers of the “Stay Active Together” (ZAB) association and digital senior care.
The latter started promisingly in the ASZ in his neighborhood last year together with Computer-Hilfe-im-Oberland, but then paused again due to a case of illness. “There have already been initial contacts, and above all there is great interest in home visits,” says the ASZ director. “We hope that we can also offer qualified services to people who can no longer leave the house,” she explains. Most recently, the Corona period has clearly shown how quickly people feel left alone at home.
Help with digital matters in the ASZ Goal: Living longer at home is desirable
Steuber also knows: “For many people, cell phones and tablets are the most important contact with the outside world.” His support is therefore intended to offer not only hardware and software tips, but also a kind of “life coaching” about digital devices and how they can help in everyday life. Certain apps or intelligent assistance systems could make many things at home easier, from shopping to reporting emergencies, and help seniors to live longer in their own four walls, he emphasizes.
For his work as a digital pilot, the Laimer attended a training course at the adult education center and submitted a police clearance certificate. The latter is mandatory, especially for home visits. “There are many things to consider.” Data protection, for example, is very important. “You get to know a lot of personal information,” explains the 59-year-old.
The next consultation hours at ASZ Laim with Martin Steuber will take place on Thursdays, September 12th and 19th and October 17th and 24th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You must register at the center by calling 57 50 14. You can also use this number to arrange a home visit. Each consultation (45 minutes) costs eight euros.
