A Langley family whose three-year-old Maltipoo was mauled to death at Vancouver's Second Beach in early August is offering a reward for information leading to the identification of the owner of the attacking dog, who fled the scene and has been sought by authorities ever since.

A GoFundMe page was set up last week titled “#JUSTICE FOR SKY – Funds for Reward and Legal Fees” and has now raised over $4,000 in donations. The overall goal is $10,000 as the family “continues its search for the owner and will use the funds raised as a reward.”

Two weeks ago, Vancouver Animal Control renewed its appeal to find the owner. Despite several tips and videos on social media, the owner and her dog – who ran at the Maltipoo named Sky and grabbed her with his teeth – have not been found.

Vancouver police said animal control services will contact them if they need assistance with the investigation.

Videos circulating on social media show the owner of the attacking dog fleeing the scene despite being told to stop and disappearing into the woods. Animal rights activists confirmed to Postmedia that the dog captured on social media is the suspect they are looking for.

The incident occurred when Sky's owners, Andrea Jagdeo and AJ Tay, were walking with their three children and two dogs at Second Beach near Stanley Park at around 5:30 p.m. on August 5.

“Sky was just standing there, there was no interaction or anything, and then out of nowhere this dog came between my daughter and I,” Jagdeo told Postmedia. “It happened so fast and he grabbed Sky with so much force that her collar slipped off.”

The other dog, described by some witnesses as a pit bull and by others as a bullmastiff, had his jaws closed around Sky's stomach and would not let go.

The family and several passersby tried to stop the attack. Tay tried to open the attacking dog's mouth to free Sky.

A stranger flagged down a passing car and the driver took her to a veterinary clinic on the corner of Burrard and Broadway, where Sky was pronounced dead.

The family has set up a Facebook page called “Justice for Sky” in the hope that their pet’s death will not go unpunished.

“We will not stop until justice is served and the rules, laws and legal requirements in this city and this country are changed!” it says.
