After Clapton’s murder, investigators continue to appeal for witness statements and information

Detectives investigating the murder of a disabled man in Hackney are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information.

Jade Anthony Barnett, 38, died at around 3.40pm on Wednesday, August 28, after being stabbed in Rushmore Road, E5.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the investigation and said:

“I would like to reassure the local community that my team of experienced detectives are making good progress as we reconstruct the events leading to Jade’s murder and work to identify the person responsible.

“But we still need your help. Jade was stabbed in the middle of the day in the street. I know that for some reason there are people who have not yet come forward to the police, who saw what happened or who took photos or videos of what happened.

“We have set up a special portal where you can upload pictures and footage. Please do so or contact us so that together we can give Jade's loved ones answers about what happened to him and hold those responsible to account.”

Two men – [A] 28 years old and [B] 21 years old – who were arrested on suspicion of murder, have since been released without further action.

Jade's family will continue to receive support from specially trained officers and will be kept updated on developments.

The investigation was launched after police were called to Rushmore Road after receiving calls that Jade had been stabbed. Jade – who is disabled – was travelling on his mobility scooter at the time of the incident. The mobility scooter was left at the scene. Investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances and are trying to establish why Jade was stabbed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or message @MetCC on X quoting CAD 4793/28AUG.
