Conclusion
This smart outdoor wall light can replace a boring, uniform light with a colorful display of light. However, you don't have complete flexibility when it comes to setting it up, as the Govee outdoor wall light has to be permanently connected to the power supply.

The Govee Outdoor Wall Light also comes from Govee's new outdoor lighting product line, like the Govee Outdoor Triade LED spotlight. The outdoor wall light is probably the most niche-oriented product in the collection.
It is permanently mounted and connected directly to the mains. The focus of the Govee outdoor wall light is to bring color to a normally boring, monotonous area of the house.
installation
If there are already outdoor lights with a standard socket behind them (which is not a given), installing the outdoor wall light is quite easy.
An included back plate covers the socket and is attached with four included screws. The standard black and white wires of the wall light connect to the corresponding wires in the socket, while the empty wire is attached to a screw on the back plate to serve as a ground. Nuts are included.
The outdoor wall light itself is then attached to the rear panel with a small tab on the back of the unit. Two additional screws are screwed into the rear panel from either side to secure the new light.
The edges of the wall light should be sealed by the homeowner to protect it from water, but the light is weatherproof to IP65, it is also dustproof and can withstand water splashes from all directions.
I had no problems installing the device. However, before installation, you should make sure that the socket (and therefore the back wall) is perfectly level to avoid having to rework it later.
If you don't have an electrical outlet, Govee supplies anchors and screws that allow you to attach the back panel (and therefore the light) directly to any solid surface, but formal instructions for this type of installation are not included.
Design and furnishing
The wall light hardware is made of gray plastic and measures 263 millimeters in height, 131 millimeters in width and 62 millimeters in depth. Most of the front and both sides are taken up by the light panel itself, which is protected by a transparent white cover.

Under this cover you will find a multitude of LEDs that produce a maximum of 1,500 lumens of light and consume a maximum of 16 watts of power (according to my own measurements).
The light panel is divided into three addressable zones arranged in a vertical line. To control them, you need to install the Govee Home app on your smartphone. The Govee wall light supports Matter and is incredibly easy to set up. It automatically detects the device nearby and quickly connects it to your Wi-Fi, with only the 2.4 GHz frequency band supported.
Elements and functionality
As with all Govee lighting products, the user is quickly immersed in a wealth of configuration possibilities that can take the better part of an afternoon to explore. Google Assistant and Alexa are supported for those who want voice control, while Apple Homekit and Samsung Smart Things via Matter are also an option.
Each of the three zones can be set to a specific color or white temperature (from a warm 2700K to a cooler 6500K), or you can have any number of scenes created for you. The scenes are divided into categories, and each contains between 6 and 20 specific lighting effects. These looks can be static or moving, but cannot be changed beyond adjusting the overall brightness.
Like other Govee products, the outdoor wall light also has a music mode that allows the lighting effects to change in rhythm with the ambient noise. However, please note that the wall light does not have its own microphone. You can also just use your smartphone's microphone to listen to music that you can use to control the lighting.
If you want to fine-tune your lighting system (and I recommend you do), you should try Govee's segment management feature, which allows you to not only select a color for each of the three zones, but also a relative brightness for each zone. This is independent of the overall brightness of the wall light and can be a little confusing at first.
Ultimately, the relative brightness of each segment will be the same as the overall brightness you choose for the entire fixture. To maximize flexibility, you should set the overall brightness to near 100 percent and reduce the relative brightness settings accordingly.
An endless array of pre-configured lighting modes awaits you.

As with the Govee Outdoor Triade LED Spotlight, the configuration process in the app was a little buggy at the time of testing and needed fine-tuning. For example, if you switch to a scene and then switch back to manual color mode, the light won't change until you change one of the settings.
This is true even if you already had things set up exactly the way you wanted. To make this process easier, you should save the current state as a snapshot so you don't keep losing the settings you like best.
One note: When setting up segments, the app can be turned on or off with Gradient mode. When Gradient mode is not active, the three segments are clearly defined, but when Gradient mode is on, they blur into one another. Gradient mode looks best in any setting and creates a smoother, more attractive overall look, but at the cost of making the three segments quite uneven.
When gradient mode is off, the three segments are a perfect third of the lighting area. When gradient mode is off, the bottom segment dominates about half of the lighting area, while the top segment only receives a small portion of the light.
The good news: The outdoor wall light does not have the visible LED problem of the Triade spotlights – visible points of light make the light look like an LCD clock. Quite the opposite: here the translucent cover is thick and opaque enough to hide the LEDs underneath. This gives the device a sophisticated and attractive look, even when it is turned off.
Should you buy the Govee outdoor wall light?
With a asking price of under 70 euros (RRP: 89.99 euros), the Govee outdoor wall light is a good deal for a device that provides plenty of light and looks good too. And when you think about it, there is no real reason why you shouldn't I am house use.
