Fatman Scoop appeared alongside Ciara on Missy Elliott’s hit “Lose Control” in 2005.

Missy Elliott was one of those who paid tribute to the rapper, saying on X: “Prayers for Fatman Scoop’s family for strength during this difficult time,

“Fatman Scoop's voice and energy have contributed to many songs that have made people happy and dance for over two decades. Her influence is enormous and will never be forgotten.”

Producer and DJ Pure Cold (real name Birch Michael) also shared the news of Fatman Scoop's death and paid tribute to him: “You taught me how to become the man I am today. I love you, Scoop. Thank you for everything you gave me.”

Musician and producer Questlove paid tribute to him on Instagram, saying: “I want to thank Fatman Scoop for embodying what hip hop is really about. Just forgetting your worries, living in the moment and allowing joy to flow.”

“It's so sad to see you go, my brother. We will miss you, but never forget you.”

Rapper Lil John commemorated the death of Fatman Scoop by sharing a video of him recording his verse “Lose Control” on Instagram.

The Freeman family wrote in a statement on Instagram: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop.

“Last night the world lost a shining soul, a beacon on stage and in life.

“FatManScoop was not only a world-class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend.

“He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage.

“FatMan Scoop was known worldwide as the undisputed voice of the club,” the statement continued. “His music made us dance and put a positive spin on life. His joy was infectious and the generosity he showed to all will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”

“While we mourn the loss of FatManScoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched.

“FatMan Scoop’s legacy is one of love and brightness and will live on forever in our hearts and memories,” the family said.

Fatman Scoop is known to have collaborated with artists such as Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and others.

In 2015, he also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK.

He is the father of two children.
