– Attack on law enforcement agencies with stones and fireworks
Unknown attackers attacked and injured police officers on Rigaer Strasse in Berlin's Friedrichshain district. The officers initially helped the fire brigade fight a garbage fire, they reported. Then they were attacked by three unknown assailants with fireworks. The suspects fled into a residential building and set off more fireworks and stones at the police from its roof.
One officer was reportedly hit in the shoulder by a firework and suffered a concussion. Another officer was injured in the head after a thrown rock hit his helmet. Both officers are continuing their work.
A female officer was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, which she suffered while fighting the fire. The perpetrators escaped and the security authorities are investigating the case. Rigaer Straße has recorded several cases of left-wing extremism in recent years.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators who attacked them with fireworks and stones. Despite the attack, police officers remained determined to maintain order on Rigaer Street.
