Tourists follow the hiking app until they get stuck – mountain rescue rushes to the rescue

Two holidaymakers from North Rhine-Westphalia blocked the Goldtropfsteig on the Hochstaufen on Wednesday evening (28 August). As “Alpin.de” reports, the hikers were following an app and got into difficulties at an altitude of 1140 metres.

Rescuer abseils from helicopter to save vacationers

According to “Alpin.de”, the 27-year-old man and his partner alerted the rescue services because the 28-year-old could no longer continue on her way. The Bad Reichenhall mountain rescue service and the Traunstein rescue helicopter quickly rescued the couple. Two rescuers were lowered down by winch and brought the uninjured hiker safely back to the valley.

“Alpin.de” emphasizes that the Goldtropfsteig is a demanding mountain tour that is only suitable for experienced hikers. The increased use of hiking apps without sufficient preparation is leading to an increasing number of mountain rescue operations.

9-hour rescue operation: Family relies on internet hiking route

A similar case recently occurred in Austria. A family of four from the Black Forest and a man from Freiburg chose a hiking route on the Wilder Kaiser near Kufstein that was too demanding for them.

After they had mastered the climb to the Ellmauer Halt, they encountered difficulties on the descent via the Kaiserschützensteig and made an emergency call. According to Robert Baumgartner, head of the Kufstein mountain rescue service, the group realized that they could not go any further and were exhausted.
