On a cold night, local teenage firefighters in Wemding, Donau-Ries district, conducted an exercise that caused a stir. A 65-year-old woman called the emergency number around midnight on Saturday, claiming that a van driver had thrown what looked like a corpse into the city moat and left the scene, police reported. The eyewitness' husband, also 74, saw an object at the bottom of the city moat that looked suspiciously like a corpse, reports said. In response to this alarm, several police units and dog handlers were skillfully dispatched to the scene. But this unexpected incident was quickly cleared up: upon closer investigation, it turned out that there was no corpse in the ditch, but a practice dummy from the fire department's equipment that had been deliberately thrown there during the fire department's night exercise.
