Gelsenkirchen | At the end of the fourth matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln won 3:1 at FC Schalke 04.
The party started with some good attacking moves on both sides, and the visitors finally took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal from Damion Downs. They then continued to apply pressure and were rewarded before the break when Linton Maina finished off a counterattack.
Immediately after the break, the ball was in the Knappen goal again – this time Tim Lemperle was responsible for the goal. The game seemed to have already been decided at this point. Schalke were able to get on the scoresheet themselves in the 66th minute with a penalty converted by Kenan Karaman – but despite a few good opportunities, it was not enough to catch up.
The win moved Cologne up to sixth place, while Schalke are in twelfth place with four points. After the international break, Cologne will play against 1. FC Magdeburg on September 14th, while Schalke will face Karlsruher SC the day before.
The results of the parallel matches on Sunday afternoon: SC Paderborn 07 – SSV Ulm 1846 0:0, Eintracht Braunschweig – Karlsruher SC 1:2.
