After hit-and-run, a man ends up in a cell

A 36-year-old man was driving a truck with a trailer between Gersthofen and Gablingen on Sunday night. At 1:18 a.m. he drove into the oncoming lane. A man was driving his Opel there. According to the police, the Opel driver was only able to avoid an accident by making a dangerous evasive maneuver: he drove his car between the trees onto an adjacent field. However, this caused damage to his car amounting to 5,000 euros. A guide post was also broken.

Behind the Opel was a Mercedes, whose driver, according to the police, was only able to avoid a collision by slamming on the brakes. The 36-year-old continued driving undeterred in his truck – but had not counted on the man in the Mercedes. He followed the truck and called the police.

The journey ends at Affaltern

Ultimately, the truck was stopped and checked on a dirt road in the forest near Affaltern. The police officers suspected that the 36-year-old truck driver had taken alcohol or drugs; however, a breathalyzer test could not be carried out.

After a blood sample was taken, the truck driver was taken into custody due to his condition and taken to the Swabia North Police Headquarters. He is expected to be charged with suspicion of endangering road traffic, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident without permission. (corh)
