One year of promoting media literacy at CJD Biberach

Friday, August 9, 2024 – The nationwide educational and social enterprise CJD (Christian Youth Village Association of Germany's non-profit organization) has made an important contribution to more digital participation among schoolchildren and adults with the project #digitalconnects at the CJD Biberach. The project, funded by Aktion Mensch, included a series of workshops to promote digital skills and media literacy – especially in the areas of information and application skills.

In cooperation with schools, the Youth Migration Service (JMD) and other educational institutions, an offer was created that was aimed at young people and adults with and without disabilities. The rapid technological development and the associated requirements pose major challenges for many people. In order to find their way in the increasingly complex media world, they need comprehensive know-how and basic digital skills.

The main goal of the project is to provide participants with the digital skills they need to meet the academic and professional demands of the future. The workshops were held in a modular learning setting and covered the following key topics: handling devices and software, learning software and e-learning, information gathering and source evaluation and fake news as well as rules of conduct on the Internet, security and data protection. Particular attention was paid to the project on anti-discrimination and prevention work in order to raise awareness of the social challenges of digitalization.

In addition to the group seminars, the project offered individual advice and support on digital issues, so that participants could also receive personal help.

With the completion of the “#digital connects” project, the CJD Biberach was able to make an important contribution to the digital participation of young people and adults in Biberach. The knowledge and structures gained will also be used in future educational projects to further promote digital participation.
