“Monster” and more: The series tips for September

September has exciting new releases in store for subscribers to major streaming services. An overview of the series tips.

The series month of September brings two superhero series, the sequel to “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and the conclusion of the new “Emily in Paris” season. The most high-profile series reboots and new series seasons at a glance.

“Emily in Paris”: Coming to Netflix on September 12th

The streaming service Netflix is increasingly using a new release strategy for its most successful series such as “Bridgerton,” “Stranger Things” and “You.” Instead of making all episodes of a new season available for viewing on one day, the seasons are released in two parts.

This fate has now also befallen the Netflix hit “Emily in Paris”. The second part of season four, consisting of five episodes, will be released on the streaming service on September 12th. Viewers and fans will then find out how the story of Emily (Lily Collins, 35) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo, 36) continues. They can also experience Paris in winter and Emily's trip to Rome.

A fifth season of “Emily in Paris” is said to be in the works, although Netflix has not yet officially confirmed it. The series will most likely continue for several more years.

“Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”: Coming to Netflix on September 19th

The true crime series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”, which was released in 2022, was originally conceived as a miniseries. But given the huge success of the show starring Evan Peters, 37, Netflix ordered a second season dedicated to a spectacular murder case.

“Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” tells the true story of the brothers Erik (Cooper Koch, 28) and Lyle Menendez (Alexander Chavez), who murdered their parents (Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny) in Beverly Hills in 1989. In their defense, the siblings claimed that they had been sexually abused by their father for years. They are still in prison today.

Super producer Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story,” “Ratched,” “The Watcher,” 58) is once again behind “Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez.” Netflix has also already ordered a third season of his anthology series “Monster.”

“Agatha All Along”: From September 19th on Disney+

“Agatha All Along” is Marvel Studios' eleventh streaming series. The new show, in which Kathryn Hahn, 51, plays the main role, is a spin-off of the first MCU show “WandaVision” from 2021.

As a reminder: At the end of “WandaVision,” Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen, 35) fought with Agatha (Hahn), won once and for all, and robbed the witch of her magical powers. She also magically locked Agatha in her “Agnes” role. In “Agatha All Along,” the witch is now able to free herself from that very same spell. To regain her powers, she embarks on a so-called magical gauntlet with the help of a goth teenager (Joe Locke, 20).

“The White Lotus” star Aubrey Plaza, 40, Debra Jo Rupp, 73, already known from “WandaVision,” and Sasheer Zamata (“Saturday Night Live,” 38) complete the ensemble. The first two episodes of “Agatha All Along” will be released on September 19 on Disney+. The remaining seven episodes will follow at weekly intervals.

“The Penguin”: From September 20th on Sky and Wow

In the new, dark DC series “The Penguin”, the ever-popular Colin Farrell, 48, returns as Batman villain Oz Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin. The character was already introduced as the Dark Knight in the movie “The Batman” with Robert Pattinson, 38 – and is now getting his own, high-quality spin-off from HBO.

After the death of gangster boss Carmine Falcone, the ambitious criminal Cobblepot tries to seize power over Gotham City's underworld in the tough, brutal gangster series. In doing so, he has to deal with Falcone's psychopathic daughter Sofia (“Black Mirror” star Cristin Milioti, 39), among others. The serial killer has just been released from the notorious Arkham Asylum and will probably make life extremely difficult for the title character.

In addition to those already mentioned, “The Penguin” also stars character actor Michael Kelly, 55, known from “House of Cards,” and screen icon Clancy Brown (“Starship Troopers,” 65). The eight episodes of the miniseries will be released weekly on Sky and Wow.
