WAUKESHA – One person is dead and another has been arrested after a large police presence overnight in Waukesha.
Police responded to the area around Garfield Avenue and Douglas Avenue at 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Shortly before midnight, our partners at TMJ4 News saw police taking someone out of the house.
“The dispatch center had telephone contact with an adult male who admitted to shooting his grandmother and also threatened to harm himself,” said Police Captain Dan Baumann.
According to a city of Waukesha Press release On Monday, drone technology was used to determine that a woman was dead in the home. Negotiations with the suspect were attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the suspect went to the front door several times but refused to leave the house.
After several unsuccessful attempts, the Waukesha Police Department's tactical unit deployed chemical munitions into the home to force the suspect to leave. A sniffer dog was deployed and assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.
