Avon student was fired Monday morning after bringing a gun to school

AVON – An Avon Intermediate School East student was expelled Monday after bringing a gun to school.

According to the Avon School Corporation, a handgun was discovered in the possession of a student at school on Monday morning after two other students reported that the student had bragged about the gun on the school bus on the way to school.

The incident occurred at Avon Intermediate School East, a school for fifth and sixth grade students.

According to school officials, the student was immediately tracked down by school administrators after the report was made and his weapon was confiscated. The student was expelled from school.

The district confirmed that there were no threats and the school day would continue as usual.

“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority at Avon Schools. We regularly tell our students and staff that if they see something, they should tell a trusted adult. We are incredibly proud of the students who followed that advice this morning,” said a press release from the Avon Community School Corporation.
