Trader Joe's is recalling around 653,000 candles due to fire hazard.
On August 15, the supermarket chain recalled its mango and tangerine-scented candles after discovering that the flame could jump from the wick to the wax. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), this causes a “larger-than-expected flame that poses a fire hazard.”
Trader Joe's is no stranger to candles, as the company sells a variety of seasonally inspired scented candles throughout the year, but customers shouldn't ignore the risk posed by the Mango Tangerine candles, which were sold in June 2024.
The CPSC recall notice states that there were 14 reports of large flames caused by the recalled scented candles, with three reports indicating minor property damage and two reports indicating minor burns.
Customers who purchased the recalled Mango Tangerine candle with SKU number 56879 listed on the bottom of the tin are urged to stop using the product immediately. Customers are also asked to return the candle to Trader Joe's and receive a full $4 cash refund.
If you can't or don't want to visit a store, you can fill out a product feedback form online at Trader Joe's to receive a $4 Trader Joe's gift card via email.
If you choose this route, customers will need a copy of the purchase receipt or a photo of the product to present to the Trader Joe's customer service team.
